Over 20 years ago, the BiSS Interface was introduced by iC-Haus as an open standard for isochronous industrial communication. Due to its high data rates and low protocol overhead, short cycle times way below 10 μs can be achieved, making BiSS the perfect choice for high-performance motion control applications.

Although the documentation including the BiSS C Protocol Description is available online without any restrictions, iC-Haus introduced a free license agreement for BiSS Device Manufacturers to regulate the usage of BiSS IP rights like patents, trademarks, logos and VHDL IP cores. Meanwhile BiSS Association e.V. has taken over licensing for device manufacturers. In total over 650 manufacturers now benefit from their free license.
